About Billy Montana

Singer

In the late 1980s, Montana and his brother, Kyle, formed a country music group with Bobby Kendall, Dave Flint and Doug Bernhard. Billy Montana & the Long Shots signed with Warner Bros and charted three singles on Billboard's Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart before disbanding without releasing an album. Their highest charting single, "Baby I Was Leaving Anyhow," peaked at No. 40 in 1987. After the group disbanded, Montana moved to Nashville in 1989 to pursue his dream of songwriting.

In 1994, Magnatone Records signed Montana to a solo record deal. His debut album, No Yesterday, was released in April 1995. Three singles were released from the project and charted on Billboard's Hot Country Singles & Tracks, the highest of which peaked at No. 55. One of the album's tracks, "A Clean Mind and Dirty Hands," was named Song of the Year by Farm Journal in 1996 as the song best depicting genuine farm life.

Songwriter

Billy Montana has achieved four #1 country records: Lee Brice's “Hard To Love”(2012), Garth Brooks' “More Than A Memory”(2007), Sara Evans' "Suds In The Bucket" (2004) and Jo Dee Messina's "Bring On The Rain" (2002). Montana’s most recent hit, “Night Shift,” peaked at #4 on the Country Aircheck Media Base chart in May of 2019. "Bring On The Rain" was nominated for awards by both the Recording Academy (Grammy) and the Country Music Association and reached Number 6 on the Adult Contemporary chart. It appeared on the Country and A/C Charts for a combined total of 66 weeks! "Suds In The Bucket" was the most played country song by a female artist in 2004 and in 2019, “Suds” landed at #145 on Sirius XM radio’s list of the top 1,000 country songs of all time. “More Than A Memory” is the only song in country music history to debut at #1 on both the Billboard and R & R charts.
